Partly Facetious: But independent thought is not popular
"So is there a Sindh card or not?"
"Not as far as the President is concerned in his most recent statement. And yes there is one as far as the Zulfiqar Mirza is concerned."
"Does Mirza have a thought process that is independent of the President?"
"I am afraid that salvo cannot possibly hit home because I can ask you the same: do the Nawalas have any independent thought process?"
"Maybe the Nawalas have just a tad bit more independence of thought than Mirza or other Zardis."
"And you say that because?"
"Because the Nawalas include a brother and some very close friends who have been with Nawaz Sharif in the bad times as well."
"But the Zardis have time and again shown their loyalty to the President, maybe also to his late wife Benazir, but to him personally. Isn't that one of your major grouses with respect to certain Zardi members of the Cabinet?"
"So yet another stalemate?"
"Indeed but one thing merits notice: and that is the use of the Sindh card or at least mention of the possibility of the use of the Sindh card by some Zardis where the possibility of breaking Pakistan has also been mentioned."
"Two things my friend: first, the anger was expressed during the assassination anniversary of Benazir Bhutto and it may have been misdirected but it was in that context..."
"But shouldn't we initiate proceedings of high treason against those who referred to breaking Pakistan even in anger. I grant you intent and capacity are not the same but still?"
"I am sure some lawyer somewhere will initiate proceedings however my second point is that granted that the President was divisive even during the lifetime of Benazir Bhutto within the party and granted that had she lived we would have had an absentee first spouse but the Zardari-led PPP was the single largest party after the elections, or a month and a half after her death, when he was the undisputed party leader and he did win elections on February 18 as well as the presidential elections fair and square."
"One and a half months is not enough time for the PPP voters to realise that things had changed at the top."
"But the recent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan..."
"There are allegations of rigging there even by a PPP coalition partner. Let's see who wins the bye-elections in Pindi and Lahore..."
"But those are PML (N) seats aren't they?"
"And what makes you think Gilgit-Baltistan were not PPP seats?"
"Ah I landed myself right in it didn't I?"
"Yes you did."
